before I was born, I was in
my mother’s dream
As a child in a diaper in Yangon University .
May I say my life started in
Yangon University ?
I played beside my mother
Who was feeding milk to my
brother in the library.
May I say I was brought up
in the University?
I visited Mawlamyine University
As a second standard student
And left for my home town, Yangon
As a first year honours
student.
May I say I grew up in a
University?
During my holidays
I had lunch in my mother’s
department
And read books in Mawlamyine University library.
May I say the library
moulded me
Into a book lover?
I admires and envied
University teachers and students
I never missed any variety
concert
Held by the Arts
Association.
I played tennis breathing
fresh air.
I played on the Chancellor Road in
the rain.
I rode the bicycle with my
friends.
I determined to spend my
life
As a University teacher like
my mother.
May I say experience
determined my life’s career.
I returned back with
expectations
I dreamed of seeking
knowledge in Yangon
University .
But poor health dragged me
away from it.
My dream was drowned in
tears and pain.
I didn’t give up,
And was rewarded for my
determination.
May I say I had to join YU
through pain and tears?
I go to Yangon University
and return home.
Paying homage to the
Shwedagon Pagoda on my way.
I go to the library
listening to the cuckoos.
I study my lessons,
Trying to acquire knowledge
for my life.
I am content with my life
now.
To my mother University ,
May I request you
To accept me as your own
daughter,
To fill me with
knowledge for my students
And to let me rest in your
warm bosom.
